Representation of Jennifer Lopez

FHM provides men's entertainment, girls, advice and video games. Jennifer is wearing the least anount of clothing in this cover, she is dressed in a provocative pale coloured bikini. The setting of the cover seems to be that of a beach, she is sitting on sand and the background is blue to imitate the sky. This gives the cover a cool and tranquil look, almost idealic. A long shot has been used to capture her full body which will appeal to the male audience. Her hand is placed on her hip, showing off her curves and instatly attracting attention to her body. Her facial expression also entices the reader with her fierce direct mode of address and sexual pout. The camera angle is slightly high and it looks as though we are looking down at her, putting her in an almost inferior position. The anchorage text used 'Goddess!' is placed in block capitals and in bright red, contrasting to the colour scheme of the cover. It disturbs the peaceful setting and demands attention from the reader. The colour red is known to raise blood pressure and increase respiration rate. Interestingly they have placed a cover line next to her head 'Sex Mad' this promotes promiscuity and almost degrades Jennifer.

InStyle magazine features ‘the hottest fashion, beauty and A-list trends.’ So as Jennifer is being featured as the main central image it shows that she must have some influence and popularity in this section. The anchorage text is ‘On fame, family & turning forty.’ This statement is clearly reflected in the image of Jennifer. The sense of maturity and sophistication is clearly the theme for this cover. Jennifer is positioned in the middle of the cover in a mid-shot. She is turned slightly to the left with her right arm on her waist, however she is still using a direct mode of address. She is wearing a monochrome dress which looks very unique and intriguing because of its shape. The look is made more subtle by the lack of jewellery and simple make-up. This gives her a sophisticated, mature woman’s look but still manages to look glamorous. The colour scheme matches Jennifer and is also kept to a minimum, giving the magazine a classy and elegant look. It is interesting however that the anchorage text is the smallest out of all the cover lines, but I think it is not needed to be big as her prominence on the page is already powerful. Also as it is a fashion magazine the biggest cover line should revolve around it.

People is a magazine compromising of celebrity and human-interest stories. This cover portrays Jennifer in an entirely new perception. The focus is on her newly found motherhood rather than her usual sex goddess look. However, she is shown to still be a goddess with the choice of costume. She is wearing a cream silky dress in the style of an ancient greek goddess. The dress makes her look elegant and glamorous aswell as the glamorous up-do and earrings. She isn't wearing much make-up which puts all the focus on her children whom she is cradling in her arms. Her head is tilted and she has a broad smile, welcoming the readers with a friendly stature. This look is sure to appeal to other ordinary mothers who may feel like they can now relate to her. The casual and calm setting of this shoot also attributes to the warm and welcoming atmosphere preovided. She is seated on a sofa which makes it seem as though she is comfortable at home with her children. They are both sleeping which gives the impression of idealism and serenity. The cover is compiled of warm soft colours and no bright, harsh colours are used on the cover so there is nothing to distract us from the main image. There are three puffs used and two of them are focused on Jennifer. Although she is not being shown as a sexy young female, she can still be set on the front cover with all attention on her.

Cosmopolitan is a magazine that revolves around fashion, beauty, sex and relationships. This cover portrays Jennifer in a different light from the previous magazine. The theme for the cover is obviously based around Jennifer's cultural background, the colours used give the sense of a sort of 'latin heat or fire'. The combination of red, orange and yellow instantly give the impression of heat and warmth and welcome the reader. Along with the actual image of Jennifer it adds a sexual element. She looks fiery and full of passion, her dress reveals her cleavage and shoulders and she is raigin her dress to show her upper thigh. The dress also reminds us of a youthful and happy summer with it's floral and bright design. The way she has positioned herself shows that she is confident with herself and her body, he hair has been fanned back and shows her full face. The slight smile also gives the impression of sexual confidence. The left side of her body is facing away from the cover almost as if she is teasing the audience with the revealing of her leg. Her direct mode of address instantly connects with the reader. Again the anchorage text is small but doesn't need to be bog as her presence has already made such an impact. There is also the reference to heat again 'Jennifer Lopez answers your burning questions'. All the other cover lines surrounding her seem to involve sex and relarionships so the reader will subconciously put the two together and come to the conclusion that Jennifer Lopez is sexy. This front cover targets bot a male and female audience, men want to be with her and women aspire to be like her.
